ADB, four others donate towards Farmers Day

The Dean of Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering of the College of Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and TechnologThe Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) yesterday presented to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) a dummy key to a three-bedroom house for this year’s National Best Farmer.
The house, which will be fully furnished and is valued at about US$100,000, will be constructed at a location of the winner’s choice.

The Farmers Day celebration will take place in Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region on November 4, 2016 on the theme: “Agriculture: A business response to economic growth”.

Four other organisations also made separate donations to the MoFA towards the celebration.

The Cocobod presented a Toyota Hilux double-cabin pick-up, a cheque for GH¢10,000 and items such as fridges, tricycles, bicycles and a television set, all valued at GH¢474,384.

The Stanbic Bank donated a Nissan pick-up vehicle, valued at GH¢90,000, to be presented to the second runner-up at the awards ceremony.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) also presented a cheque for GH¢20,000, while the KEK Insurance Brokers Company donated a cheque for GH¢5,000.

The Group Head of Agricultural Finance at the ADB, Mrs Sylvia Nyante, said the donation was in fulfilment of the bank’s pledge made 15 years ago to consistently support the National Farmers Day event.

She said this year’s sponsorship package was in excess of GH¢500,000 and included the sponsorship of the event and a cocktail for the awardees.

Receiving the items, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Crops, Dr Yakubu Ahmed Alhassan, said the assessors of the nominees for this year’s event had completed their report and preparations were almost complete for a successful celebration.

He said awardees were expected to be in Sunyani on October 30 in readiness for the event.

Dr Alhassan further indicated that district and regional events would be observed on the same day throughout the country and, therefore, urged corporate institutions to support those events as well, stating that “MoFA does not have enough”.
